white smoke and bogs down
I just purchased a 1998 4x4 van with a PS. At startup there is no smoke, but after a few minutes, the engine will spew out white smoke (a whole lot of white smoke) and when I attempt to add more throttle the engine just bogs down and won't get to 1600 RPM, and still pours out the smoke.
I took the van to a shop and the mechanic says: may need valves, or there is oil in the turbo, or may need engine (then he says "I have a used engine..."). I have no confidence in the mechanics honesty, but I don't know a whole lot about PS myself. What are likely causes of white smoke and inability to get RPM's out of the motor? When driving, the van will hardly pull itself. Thanks |

Since I am not a tech.. I really can't help you with your problem. What I can do is bump this back toward the top for ya, so one of our techs is more likely to see it by saying:
Welcome to Powerstroke.org

my 1998 powerstroke 7.3 smokes(blue/white) like crazy, and runs bad. The "water in fuel" light is on.

If the ban is smoking just wite then that is ether raw fuel or coolant. that is if it is just wite. and for the high jacker you injectors may be leaking or you may have sothing in you fuel sounds like to me.

Could be a blown turbo, when they go they shoot oil into the downpipe and it sends a white cloud out the tailpipe. Also it will not make and power most of the time.

7.3 is an all turbo engine, if the turbo is leaking oil that should be fixed first. The 7.3 is prettymuch bullet proof if you can keep a clean air filter in it.

Do a thorough visual inspection of all your fluids, fuel, oil, coolant, and monitor their consumption. |
