Dies while im driving

So yesterday when i was driving to my shop, the truck died out real quick then came back on. Then i was pulling in to the shop and it died. Started back up fine tho. Now today it has done the same thing three times where it dies and starts back up while im still driving. The last time a giant cloud of smoke came out my exhaust. I have no clue where to start, im thinking either the fuel bowl heater, or the cam pressure sensor. Any help??

the fuel heater if bad would most likely pop the number 30 fuse. Then it would not restart. just die.
You can unplug the heater if you want.
Sounds like the cps to me. 27 bucks for one at the dealer. Theres a recall too on them. You might get one installed free.

Fuel heater will kill the PCM fuse and you won't be going anywhere!! Leave it alone it is fine. It does sound like a CPS ( cam position sensor) it is a simple magnetic counter that tells the puter the cam is turning, when it fails it tells the puter the engine is off and it shuts down. These can be intermintent, and yes there is a recall and if you haven't had it done already you can get one installed for FREE. PM me with any ?

I had the same problem in my truck, the new CPS fixed it. Then it started doing it again about a year later, put in a new cps, didn't fix it. I just checked all my fuses and relays under the hood and in the dash, made sure everything was seated. Hasn't done it since, cheapest fix ever.
