02 Needs Help
Wondering if anyone might have an idea... 02' 7.3L with about 77k miles. Only mods are Banks exhaust with power elbow and Air Raid intake, no chip or programmer. Engine started getting louder at idle speed and is about twice as loud as what I would call normal. When you rev the engine just slightly it quiets down and sounds normal. Seems to have normal power under acceleration but goes back to being load once coasting and RPM's get back to idle levels. There is a strange fluttering noise occasionally while holding the higher RPM's. Any ideas?

Problem Solved
Thanks to those of you who viewed my problem although no one had an idea. I took the truck to a local mechanic and the noise I was hearing was the flywheel rubbing when not under load. It seems it had cracked in half and was causing the problem.

Wow, just saw this thread? Are we talking about an auto?

Yes it's an auto. I've never heard of the flywheel cracking before but i guess there's a first time for everything. The tranny had been out at the dealer a few years ago for a new front pump and torque converter so I'm not sure if maybe they damaged it and it took all this time to finally come apart enough to cause a problem.
