Just Need Some Advice...

First of all, I just purchased my first diesel truck(at the age of 21), a 2001 Ford F250 Super Duty with the 7.3L PowerStroke. It is a little underpowered for its size so I want to add an Edge Juice with Attitude and aFe cold air intake and aFe 4” exhaust I was recently reading the newest Diesel Power magazine and I read an article stating the 99-01 7.3L Powerstroke has problems with its fuel injectors when modded due to oil pressure restrictions on the engine. I was under the impression that the ‘01 7.3L had electronic fuel injection and did not rely on oil pressure to open the injectors. Or maybe that isn’t the problem at all. I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on this issue for me. Thanks for the input.

All of the 99.5+ 7.3s have HEUI (Hydraulically Actuated, Electronically Controlled Unit) injectors. including the 6.0s. The HPOP (High Pressure Oil Pump) is what supplies the oil to fire the injectors. When people do EXTREME mods, the HPOP can not deliver enough oil to fully open the injectors under heavy to WOT conditions and that is why aftermaket vendors have developed BIG OIL solutions. Even many chips and tuners can ask more from the HPOP that what it can deliver but still will give outstanding performance increases.

So it is not really an HUEI problem but an oil supply problem. Now if you want to get into injector problems, look at the early 6.0 C94's or Dodge.............
