Crank but no start this morning!

Last night it seemed like my 7.3 was running much louder than usual. I'm running powerservice in it and usually that makes it quieter. This morning I went out to fire it up and it cranked and cranked and finally fired one time and blew a cloud of smoke and from then on as it cranked it was just pouring out smoke. This truck has always started like a champ even at 5 above without being plugged in and it only got down to about 15 last night. Any ideas?

what color smoke??? i have a feeling the louder running was an illusion... it sounds like your GPCM went bad...

does it start fine once its warm??

do you have any way to get codes??? if so, get them for us...

Sounds like your GPR is going out. You can test it with a volt meter. Should draw 12.5V with the Key on.

the motor is not any different... go look at a Excursion... there is a GPCM right about where you would find a GPR... its aluminum and rectangular shaped and has 2 female plugs on top...
