I have an issue with my 01 7.3L that has me scratching my head. Awhile back my truck started producing white smoke when i would let off the throttle, it doesn't happen every time I do this. It started happening more and more and then it start smoking when I was at an idle. I had it looked at and was informed that it smoked was because two of the injectors were bad (#'s 2 & 8). So I went ahead and replaced all eight injectors. After replacing them, along with the glow plugs and injector harness, the problem still exists. Can someone please help me with this issue.
I didn't ohm any of the wiring because there no trouble starting the truck and I have no lose of power. But on whim I pulled the turbo off and found oil on the outlet side of the exhaust only. So it seems to me the seal for the impeller shaft has failed and the lack of pressure inside the turbo with the exhaust still flowing pulls oil into the down pipe. So it looks like I'm in need of a new turbo.
DIY rebuild is marginally cheaper than buying new or reman. Kits on E-Bay aren't expensive by any means, just make sure you get one with new bolts, and seals
