Sensor and knocking on 99

Okay my dad's 99 just had the CPS go out and it threw a code that was something along the lines of "injection pump wiring harness" like a short in the circuit or something...it also knocks when the engine light comes on, but when we took it to the dealer the light wasn't on and they couldn't do anything about it, the light just came back on...before the light came on it started bucking around just like when the CPS went out. But of course it isn't that. Any ideas?

be something like a valve cover gasket wiring issue or the harness under the valve cover with an intermitant thing. It should have codes in it.

my engine was knocking a couple years back. ended up being the fuel pump was going out.

I never thought of that. I had one do that about a month ago.
