Sudden shut down and oil leak

99 F350 7.3 Turbo

Had a sudden loss of power, like shutting off the switch and when I stopped I noticed an oil leak near the turbo, I believe just forward of and running down the back of the engine, looks like I lost a half a quart, big leak. Any help on best way to trouble shoot this.

Check the two high pressure oil lines that run right where you are talking about. They run from the hpop to the heads, one on ea side. They are braided steel with a piece of plastic flexible loom covering them for added protection. If you blew one, there will be no high pressure oil to run the injectors on that side of the engine. Also, if you lost enough oil the whole engine will shut down for the same reason.

thanks

You were right, the hp line on the drivers side had a retaining strap halfway down, the rubber or plastic had deteriorated and metal part of the strap had come in contact with the line and wore a hole in it. Replaced the line and alls good now.

Did you replace the o rings too?
There's also a plug on the back of the HPOP that has an o ring. Might as well just replace all of them while you're at it. They will probably go at some point.
