Lots of oil in the intake tube

I just got a 2002 7.3 about 4-5 months ago, 105k miles- is it common to have a lot of oil in the intake tube?

I took my filter pipe off the turbo the other day and noticed a small puddle of oil in the ribs of the tube in front of the crank case vent - it would seem it is sucking it up from the valve cover - I have added just over 2 quarts of oil in 3700 miles - it would seem to be sucking a lot. is there a way to prevent this?

I pressure washed the motor shortly after I got it, and now there is once again a lot of oil seapage from the silicon couplers on the intercooler piping - sign of anything - or should I just tighten the clamps??

It is common for a 1999-2003 7.3 to have oil in the intake tube. The CCV is a poor design and there are aftermarket crank case vent systems that prevent that from getting into you intake. Do you think you are really loosing that much oil into the engine or do you have a leak on top or back of motor? I have never heard of a CCV that eats that much oil. Also if its that much thats going in the engine, then its all going into the innercooler to the point it fills up, so you only have half the surface area of the IC working. Does the truck smoke at all? If the oil is going in but inot leaking out, you could either have a bad turbo shaft seal, or a bad oil oring on one of the injectors, and the engine is eating the oil for fuel.

I am having the same issues with my truck. Pulling oil from valve covers through the tubo and have oil leaking from all the couplers. Im buring a fairly significant amount of oil and have a lot of blue smoke at start up and during idling. I keep the oil changed regularly and the airfilter so there are no restricions to casue the motor to pull oil. the truck is a 2000 f-250 with a 2002 motor in it with 300,000 miles on it and everything is stock. Any help with these issues would be great. Thanks -Adam

the boots get oil soaked over time, and need to be replaced. Look on dieselsite.com for replacement ones. they are TOP notch, I bought some for mine. I would also be loooking for a oil leak somewhere. you might be loosing it in the intercooler. only way to find out is pull it and see.

I dont think i have a leak besides that ccv, but I will look it over, the motor is pretty clean except the IC tubes, I will pull the IC and check it next week.

If anyone can point me to one of those aftermarket ccv systems - that would be great - or is it as simple as plugging the intake hole and putting a seperate little breather on the ccv?

Does anyone have any pics of NC Hornet's kit on our trucks? I need to break down and get myself one soon. Tired of leaking boots.
