fuel filter question ?

ok i went to change the fuel filter today and the filter that i bought has the paper element wrapped around the inner filter....(its a napa gold filter)....now when i went to remove the old filter.......the plastic cap has the outer filter built into the cap....i ran back to napa and told them to try again and they showed me that its the right filter for my truck....so i got a second opinion and ran to another parts store and they showed me the same filter ????

does everybody else's filter housing have that outer filter build in or is this some aftermarket deal that im not aware of ??

Go to Autozone as that is where I get my fuel filter, the fuel filter and cap are all one piece. If you do not have an Autozone by you then you can buy a fuel filter cap at Napa. I believe it is 10 bucks. Then when you replace the fuel filter again you will already have the cap. When I replaced my fuel filter for the first time I damaged the cap during the removal. That is why I now use the fuel filters that have the cap attached to them. The fuel filter I use is a Fram filter. Also during install put a little diesel fuel on the o=ring that seals the cap. This will prevent damage to the o-ring during the tightening of the fuel filter cap. Also makes it easier to remove the cap when you go to change the fuel filter again.

that worked thank you very much....napa did have that cap and they did get a A$$ chewing for not saying anything about it the first 2 times i was in there.....but anyways thanks again

you cant pry the old filter off??
