starter going bad??i need help asap

ok so my truck turns over then the starter quits....then i try again and the starter makes a noise but it doesnt turn over. then i try again and it turns over fine then stops before the truck can start. eventually i get it running. do i need a new starter or what??

Sounds like it. Before you drop a nice penny for a new one have the old one tested to be sure though.

Check your batteries too. If you can put a load tester on it.

check to make sure the nut that holds the wire that runs from the solinoid to the starter is tight. i have had it back off a couple times on me and it does pretty much what you describe. it will click but not turn over.
it is on top of the starter, its a pain to get at but worth a try before you replace the starter.

ok batteries and starter are good...what else could cause it not to start right up?

Sounds like it is doing almost the same thing mine was. Turned out it was the starter. It finally left me stranded....lol. Most autoparts stores have the setup to check batteries and starters in the vehicle. Have 'em check it out and then you will know for sure.

does still sound like starter to me also , dont know how good bench test on starter is at times , no way they can create as much drag on bench as diesel engine does
