The knock could come from the Camshaft Position Sensor recall. Mine did, after getting the sensor changed it ran great. Until after driving 15 miles my number 8 is misfiring which brought me to this thread.

The number 8 cylinder is a different injector to raise the pressure in the cylinders, so it could have been going bad and when you replaced it with a regular injector such as the ones from 1-7 cylinders it will flow more fuel and sound smoother. As with the white smoke i would deffinetly check fuel, would you rather empty the tank and find thats the culprit or keep throwing money at sensors and stuff that adds up quick or change the fuel and find that a tank of fuel and a filter was all it needed. Also i would check the turbo like said above, not certain but maybe a seal in the turbo is bad and letting the oil go through the back side... Dont quote me on that last one but its a thought, and with that many miles on the truck a rebuild on the turbo wouldnt be the worst thing you could do for it.

Drop the tank and make sure the fuel pick up is not plugged. Will cause white smoke from lack of fuel. Will also have injector knocks, from lack of fuel. Will also run like sh*t. Might run fine for a little while until all the crap collects back on the screen and starts to starve it for fuel again. Also check fuel pressure. Need 60 + to be ideal. If there is oil in the exhaust you most likely have a turbo issue. How is oil consumption been when running?

You almost definately have a bad turbo if you have oil in the exhaust, seriously...

Get that fixed before you look for anything else.

We have the verdict in after putting the shop in the ford house... Haha..

The IDM is bad causing the injectors to miss fire and barely fire... and the number 8 injector (the new one) is bad...

Sooo.. the injectors all firing crazy and improperly is what is allowing so much blow by and causing the smoke...

Ford house quoted 1250 to do the work and parts.. but we found an IDM for 200 and injector is still under warrantly...

Haha.. so looks like I will have my truck back (crossing fingers) for the low cost of 200 (plus the 210 for diagnostics..

Thanks a bunch for all your help... and in the end I can proudly say to all of the people who told me I was wrong...

:SEE I told you it had something to do with the injectors: lol

Ford house is claiming that the oil in the exhaust is due to the injectors barely firing... enough to keep it running but not enough to keep things running right...

Not totally sure on that one.. But will have the answers I need tomorrow afternoon on whether or not the poor thing is actually fixed or not. Hopefully it is...

Will see how well the ford guys did at diagnostics...
