7.3 odd start?

Hi...i had an odd start today - hoping someone can assist...

I've got an 01 7.3 350 which has been a solid and consistent runner since I bought it last year...

I started it today and moved it 20ft to the garage. I shut it off for a bit (45 min or so) and started it again. Upon starting the second time it fired right up to idle and cleanly dropped RPM, instantly came back to idle, dropped again, back to idle, dropped again, came to idle and purred like a kitten. It didn't sputter or anything. It was a clean up and down in RPM 3 times.

I continued to let it idle a bit till i heard it laugh at me saying, 'you'll never figure that one out'. It was running fine..I shut it off and started again fine. I shut it off for 5 min or so and it started again fine..like it never happened.
-No CEL
CPS recall was done about 6 months ago @ the dealer.

anyone?

Bad fuel...? You done your fuel filter in one of the last few oil changes? Sounds like what mine did once when the fuel ALMOST gelled last winter.

thanks Scuffy!

My oil level is nice (and clean ) and i changed the fuel filter the other day on Turbo's advice (thx!). I don't have a scan tool but, wasn't sure the the '3 idle cycles' as described was a tip off to something in particular to a knowledgeable person.

thanks!

Pull the plug to the ICP sensor, if it has oil in it replace the ICP.

One of it's many symptoms is a rough idle at start.

Sensor is on drivers head, between alt. and lift hook.

resurrected!

it hadn't repeated the symptom....till today

unplugged the ICP - it's clean. -did it while it was running, idle dropped, and tripped a SES so, i'm assuming it's functioning

3 revs on start (up to 900rmp, down to 400ish) - then a smooth idle.

i don't have access to a free scan (unless autozone has the right one but, i doubt it)

anyone

this truck needs to be plowing this year.
