Same thing happened to me when I was coasting down a grade. It was running about 2,500 RPM, then just dropped for no reason to about 500 for a few seconds, and went back up. Hasn't had anything happen since, and has never donee it before. I was thinking it shifted but speed didn't change, and load didn't...

thanks! i'll be doing a gp check when i get my engine scanner. But, the previous owner did them (replaced) 40k ago. the first time it romped, it was fairly warm out 60deg +. The last time it romped it did puff a bit while it was romping and immediately went away. The thinner oil is a good idea except it was kinda warm when it did it at first...but, thanks! sounds like a few folks have this symptom....anyone get it squared away. if so, what was the issue? |

thanks man!! that there is good info!!! i planned on getting the Auto Enginuity scanner from PHP shich, from what I understand will perform a glow plug continuity test, injector buzz test and a slew of other diags as well as live logging and monitoring....so. I'm assuming this will do the trick. -also, obviously, this will let me check for latched codes to see if anything is stored without the SES light showing the last time i was heading for the valve covers, i couldn't, for the life of me, unplug that connector....so, yea, the connections could be a little grungy. -or i'm just an idiot (which is more often than not, the problem). ![]() thank you for the info and i may just dig into it again and see if I can get that harness plug separated and do some probing. i'll post any results to help any others who may have a rompy rig. ![]() thanks!!! |

The reason for the romping is because of the thick oil, the dead head high pressure oil rails, and the injector firing sequence. The #8 injector fires right after the #6 injector. Because the oil is thick, it flows a lot slower than normal. Once #6 fires, the HPOP has to push very thick oil ALL the way to the back of the rail to replenish the oil lost in firing the #6 cylinder. Since it's think, it can't get there in time to fire #8 so you get either very little detonation or none at all since no fuel gets injected. The HPO Xover solved this completely for me. |
