Won't start cold...
I just picked up an 01 F250 CC 4x4 with the 7.3. I bought it knowing it has some problems but got it dirt cheap and my dad has has had several of these trucks and knows them inside and out.
My problem is that the truck will only start if you plug it in for a little while and heat the block. After about 10 minutes, it will crank right up. We worked on it all day today and did the following: - Replaced fuel filter - Replace driver side injector/glow plug wiring harness (old one was burnt) - Replaced all the glow plugs - Replaced the glow plug relay - Checked oil level for high pressure oil pump - full After doing all this, we figured it would start cold but it didn't. I do know that atleast one injector is bad (will get it scanned tomorrow) but that should not cause it not to start cold. After jacking with it for a while, we plugged it in and after 10 minutes it started. When you 1st start it, it runs a little rough (injector problems) but once it heats up most of the missing goes away but it does have a small miss right off idle. Anyone have any ideas of what this could be? We also tested all the glow plug wires and they are hot/ getting power. We are both puzzled because we thought for sure it was glow plug or relay related. Tomorrow I will find out how many injectors I need but still don't think the injectors are causing it not to start cold. I had 3 bad/ dead injectors in an old truck with over a million miles and it would still start cold but it would run really rough until heated up. Any help would be appreciated and I will keep you updated on what we find b/c we will find the problem. I was just hoping someone has already went through this. TIA! |
