#8 cylinder failed contribution test?
Working on a 01 F-250 4x4 7.3. It has a miss and is smoking alot. I ran all the codes and nothing comes up except on the cyl contribution test on cyl #8. I pulled it out looking for a cracked injector tip or something obvious, but nothing. The o-rings arent split or burnt like theyve been hot, but the injector doesnt look that old. The injector that came out of it is :AP63804AE the number below that is :80440395836 and below that is: LL. Does this LL mean it is a long lead injector? And my next question is would a early 99' with a injector# AB1822803C1 lower number is 80306372853 work to see if it runs better? Any help would be helpfull! Thanks Rich

Mine fails #8 everytime I scan. Doesn't seem to be a real problem though? I'd look for another source of the smoke.
Check the harness real good. |

the best way to fix the problem is get an ITP fuel return. my buddy had the same problem on his 01, got the ITP and problem solved. i believe that in the product description it even promises to eliminate starvation of #8... if there is no apparent damage to the injector and the rings are good on the cylinder than thats the way to go.

Is that #8 the long lead and it passed the injector buzz test on all cylinders. The only other thing he was complaining about was the oil it used. But there is oil all ove rthe driver side valve cover. Kinda looks like alot of blow by.he also hasnt had the truck very long.

Replace the injector.
The o-rings usually are destroyed when you pull the injector out. As far as the codes go for the injectors. You can put an injector in there that matches the codes for the other 7. The number 8 injector is an AE code to reduce cackle. When I replaced my injector for #8. I put in a good used one I obtained that was the same code as my other injectors. How ever my #8 is now failing the cc test. So I know I will have to replace it again sometime. When I do I will be putting in a whole set of injectors. |

LL does mean long lead. Do you have any blowby? Have u ran a compression test? White smoke??

No I havent ran a compression test yet, the turbo tubes are soaked with oil. Like I said he hasnt had it very long. the smoke is blueish but smells like raw fuel.
