LOUD CLACK CLACK SOUND from engine PLEASE HELP

a friend of mine has a 97 7.3 and yesterday it started making this really loud clack clack sound from the motor it only does it when its at Idle when he takes off it goes away if you have any info please help

torque converter bolts were loose on my buddys. check that

seeing as how we dont treat our members like this , i will answer your question, a very loud clack sound can be several things , low fuel pressure can cause a fuel knock which can sound like that , probably the most common cause of what it sounds like you are referring to

i will saty this once and only once , his question was not stupid , there are never any stupid questions just stupid answers , i read his post and understood exactly what he meant by the question, so back off , chill out or take a vacation

i hear mine at idle on the pass side near the firewall
