I like how people label this as a "Ford" issue. Ford had nothing to do with it..

How is it not there fault?they buy the motors from someone else and put them in there trucks with there logos on that truck. befor those truck are even released to the public every single part has been serviced on it to get labor times for replacement.
did they change the design??? was it a one year only problem? not looking to start a argument, just stating how im looking at it.

It's navstar/IH that built this engine, Ford just stuck it between the fenders.

It's like blaming Dodge for issues with the cummins.

anyone got some dynamite I can have, or know of a good way to get the dipstick thing-a-ma-jig out of the oil pan without pulling the whole motor........
I feel the same way about the who put the drain plug next to the stupid screw on my OMC outdrive. You take this thing out that you think is the water drain and water comesout but then you hear that sound of the nut falling into the bottom of the outdrive. the fix? Pull the outdrive and put it back on. There is no need for that plug other then for people like me to pull it thinking they are draining the outdrive. And best of all, its RIGHT next to the actual drain plug!!

Good luck!

I have the same leak coming from where the dipstick tube goes into the oil pan on my '95 psd. The only reason I haven't tried to fix it is because i'm afraid it's going to fall in the oil pan too!

2 questions...

1) You're saying that all IH equipment that has the 7.3 can be completely serviced without removal?

2) You're saying that Ford should have engineered the vehicle around a poorly designed component using a $5 part?

I tied a zip tie, (a thick one ) to a piece of string and poked it through the hole where the dipstick tube goes. When and if it fell through, I just pulled it back up by the string. When I was done, yank the string, the zip tile folds up and comes right out. Of course that wouldn't have helped JW at the time he made this post.
