Question Loose hub - what's the cause?

Leaving for work this morning, noticed the driver side hub was popped out and loose. Didn't have time to look at it yet. Any ideas as to what may have gone wrong and how to fix?

Thanks.

Didn't you already start this thread yesterday.

Oopps it was not you it was someone else with similar problem.

Check the locking ring that holds the hub in place. Make sure it is still there.

Nope, not me, but I'll try to find that thread (could come in useful).

I'll check the locking ring, sounds to be an easy fix...

Thanks!

Also if the lock ring is there, Pull it out then pull the hub off, check the o-ring. It maybe wore out and allowing the hub to rattle around. Even if the lock ring is there.

All you need to pull the hub off is a pair of needle nose pliers to pull the lock ring. Once the lock ring is off you can pull the hub off. There should be an o-ring on the hub.

Not sure if it's anything to be alarmed about, but the driver side hub was popped out. Never was like this, unsure of when it went. The only thing holding it on is the lug nut cover. I can hear something rattle in there when I rotate the hub. I wish I would have grabbed a screwdriver and taken off the lug nut cover to see what's floating in there.

Pop the hub cover off, you may find the locking ring there. You should be able to see the tabs of the locking ring sticking out a little bit. Even with the hub cover on.

99-03 Superduty do not have wheelbearing nuts like the OBS trucks. The wheel bearing is a solid sealed unserviceable assembly.

The only thing that holds the hub in place is a locking ring on the outside of the hub. Then to hold the axle in place there is a C-clip on the axle shaft behind the lock out hub.
