2003 F350 CC auto 4wd not working!!!

I'm in a hurry so this is a brief pissed off vent. PLEASE HELP

First snow of the year here and I get a call from my daughter because she ran off the road just around the block. I hop in the truck and well there is no F****** 4 wheel drive!

When I turn the switch on the dash to 4x4 high, the light on the dash comes on but still only 2wd. Yes I tried shifting to D and N and back to D, nothing.

When I switch it to 4x4 low the dash light went to 4x4 low, but still nothing but worthless 2wd. The second time I tried low the light stayed on 4x4 high.

What can I look for to fix this???

Might be esof problem try to turn your hubs manually to lock position.

Then you should have 4x4 if all other things are in order...

OK I tried to turn the hubs manually and I cannot. I even tried with a pair of pliers and they won't budge.

Also on top of that. The fan kicks to defrost when I switch to 4x4.

Oh and also. Is the vacuum motor suppose to make noise? It is buzzing soon as I turn the key to on position, or does that just mean its working fine?

Ok so your auto locking hubs are " frozen " to auto position i asume. So you need new hubs or you need to get your vacuum side to work. And cause your heater turns to defrost when you turn the switch you might have broken pvh solenoid or vacuum leak somewhere. .
The vacuum pump will buzz when operating. If it stay on all the time when you have 4x4 selected then i belive you have vacuum leak somewhere between pvh solenoid and hubs.

Ok that gets me started so THANK YOU all for the replies. I cannot afford to drop it off to a shop so ill need help as I go through this. The weather is very ****ty cold and snowy and my garage is full so I'm screwed as far as that goes.
Right now I guess I'm looking at two options.

1. Install Warn hubs and be done
Or.....
2. Replace factory style auto hubs and find vac leak or whatever the other issue there is.

I'm personally leaning toward factory as I like to keep things mostly original and the auto and shift on the fly is a nice feature especially for resale value. At least if I buy the oem hubs for now I can manually put it in 4wd and find the other issues later right? It's a 2003 and a western truck with 147k miles and its in great shape.

yes you will be able to use them as a manual hub if they don't work with the Vacuum

you may even get your frozen working as a manual hub for now

He said all the 4x4 indicator lights work properly that means the motor is fine
it wouldn't say 4 hi or 4 low if the transfer case motor didn't move the selector inside the T case and send a confirmation signal

Every single time I ever dealt with a buddy (I have never had a problem) with a 4x4 switch not working was always a vacuum.
