Driveline vibration - ZF-6

This is my first post on here, though I have been browsing for months, and know that there is a wealth of information.


Picked up the truck in sig about 6 months ago, and have had an annoying vibration. Does not come through steering wheel but is instead a seat of the pants feeling. Comes and goes occasionally, but the shifter continues to vibrate back and forth as if the whole motor and trans is shaking. Manual 4x4 selector shakes as well. Tires balanced and aligned. Carrier bearing is tight.
These were my thoughts

1. Possible dual mass flywheel issue? Truck shakes a little at idle. (A little more than my brothers 7.3 ex)

2. Injector skip? 45* starts can be a little smokey, although I probably need glow plugs, the smoke continues for 1-2 minutes.

3. I plan on going through and doing all the rear ujoints and carrier bearing even though they seem fine, I'm at my wits end.

Any help would be much appreciated.

mark up the driveshaft and undo the coupling. Get yourself the blue teflon grease and have at it.

I went through something similar for over 2yrs and finally tore driveshaft apart and greased it with regular grease. What you know, no more "wind thru a pipe sound".

99.5 x-cab 7.3l, 6spd, 161k miles.....

By coupling, do you mean the slip yoke? And thanks, I was planning on greasing it while I had the driveshaft out to do the u-joints, but that's awesome to hear that it solved your problem!

Mine is doing this too now. Did you figure out a fix?

E99 F350 crew cab dually flatbed. 2wd 6-speed. Boost and egt gauges. 6637 intake. Superchips flashpaq.

L99 F350 crew cab dually flatbed. 2wd Auto. Billet TC & aux cooler. 6637 intake. Superchips flashpaq.

Nope. Found some play in the rubber of the carrier bearing and replaced, no change. On your truck, does the shifter vibrate like th whole driveline is? It's the weirdest thing to explain the way it comes and goes.

Yeah, the shifter vibrates as though the engine mounts are gone or something but it happe a very rarely.

any news on this as i have a vibration/or feels like a bind of the drive line? may shim the carrier bearing to see if that helps
