Loud banging in drivetrain

2000, F250, 7.3 Powrstroke, Auto, 138700 m.
Problem is a loud bang, bang, bang, ... comes from somewhere. Appeared last week when I made a left turn and accelerated, and had about 600 lbs in bed. Last Sat., had about 750 lbs in bed, the banging started again while slowly going up a steep hill but again ceased. Almost had it towed it was so bad but since I was 100 miles from home, I decided to try to make it home. Drove the 100 miles at 70mph on interstate, no load in bed and no problem. Took it dealer this AM and no problem getting there. I have shaken and pushed/pulled every u-joint I could lay my hands on but cannot find anything that appears to be loose and no evidence of anything flailing around. No rattling or vibration otherwise.

First of all, WELCOME.. Now that i have that out of the way, We have a Ford Tec here but he is out of town on an elk hunt for the week, be we also have some other guys that might be able to help you out. Im sure they will chime in soon. good luck finding the problem..

Dealer loaded bed with 1000 lbs last week, drove around, could not find or hear anything. I had them check for metal filings in front diff, transfer case and trans - nothing. Drove the truck for 100 mi on interstate and started to hear something, pulled off and into a parking lot and heard something grinding but as I was turning the truck back and forth, something gave a little pop and then, no more sounds. Drove to farm, back home - nothing. Took it to dealer this AM and had them check for wheel bearing problem - they reported the left front needs replacing and the right has a little play. The left front hub and bearing was replaced Nov last year.
Can something tear up in the manual locking hubs that would cause a loud banging, then grinding without also destroying the wheel bearing? It's $1300 for the wheel hub assy including rotor. Truck was not in 4wd when the noises started.

**** if yours ain't like mine.... almost to the mileage and except mine is a F350 Dually.

I'm having the whole truck shake, rattle and roll. It used to do it sporadically, but now every time I go slow, like thru school zones.

I've some ideas but feedback would be welcomed.

If it's wheel bearings then go here...

get your wheel bearing assembly from them and do it yourself. It really isn't a hard job.

I've got an '01 that's needing the wheel bearing repair kit installed and I plan on doing it myself if I can find that step x step...with pictures! I swear I saw it somewhere around here awhile back...anybody?

My dad's truck had a similiar problem, it wound up being the exhaust pipe rattling. It didn't sound like exhaust at all. I got in the bed, and went driving around, and still couldn't find it. We got it up on a lift, and grabbed the tailpipe, and sure enough, it could hit metal when you shook it pretty hard. We heated it and bent it a little. It's been fine since. Something to try at least. good luck

buddy had the same problem with 99 350. ended up being bad 4x4 hub. i think he had it locked. when he unlocked it noise went away.
