Front drivers side vibration/howling

Hey fellas about 4 weeks ago my truck started making a howling sound. Then i started getting a vibration/intermittent pulsating feeling in my left foot were i rest it when i drive. I assumed it was the Hub assy since i had to replace the right front hub back around x-mas to pass inspection, even though I was told the left was good. Well i jacked the front end up and the tire does not a single bit of play in any direction or any odd noise besides the slight break rotor noise i hear on both sides when i rotate the tires. Im really worried what it could be because i don't want my tire flying off at 70 mph. what other things could cause this noise/vibration?
Thanks

4X4? If so, could be just the Needle Brgs and the TEST for it is pretty easy . Lock that side IN (you don't need to actually be in 4WD, just so the axle spins solidly with the wheel). If the noise goes away with it Locked but makes the noise when Free, you might only need to replace the needle brgs.

Thanks for the quick reply. It is 4X4 and i tried that last week it makes the noise either way but only while driving. When on jack stands it makes no noise at all and has no play. I just got back from diagnosing it and i pulled both locking hubs out. Earlier this winter i had an issue with trying to move the locking hub it was stuck for a few weeks till it finally came loose after some persuasion. at this same time a i tried to remove the entire locking hub and it was stuck in the hub assy. I just finally got it out and cranked it back and forth till it was loosened up, put it back in and went for a test drive. and it seems all the vibs and howling have gone away (besides the tire whine). IDKif the noise is just gone temporarily or something in the hub was out of wack.

Thanks Again

Very helpful. I am having a similar issue on my drivers side. Though I am unable to put the truck in 4x4 because my you joints are grinding my grease fittings, I put moog balljoints upper and lowers in and only on the drivers side the u joint doesn't clear the grease fitting and it barley clears the passenger side..either I didn't tighten that castle nut down enough on the joint or who knows..but I sure hope it's the hub assembly or a needle bearing because my truck is creepin on 140k and I hear these trannys are known to go around 140k-200k...
