Parking Brake Cable
Hey all,
I was curious if any of you knew how to replace a park brake cable? Mine broke the other day and im in the process of getting a new one. The truck is a 2000 F-350 DRW, 6 speed, Supercab, and in case you are like Ford, Yes, it is the rear cable, seeing as that is where my park brake is located. I am somewhat mechanically inclined, so I dont need the entirely simple explanation, but any tips would help. Thanks |

It's the rear cable? The front is the one that always snaps at the point it hooks to the peddle, the little ball snaps off. If it's the rear you pull the drum off to un-clip the inner from the arm and the otter from the backing plate. The back and middle cables are very easy, the front is another story all together.

Well, the pedal went down and has no tension on it now, but yes, it ran under the drivers door to a point in the rear, and I did not see that point when it broke. So it is my pedal, yes, but I know the cable ran to the rear. And Ford said something around $40 here, also, but im not taking my truck to them anymore. It always leaves with more problems than it went in with.

If the peddle went to the floor odds are it's the front one, at the peddle it's self. First thing you need to do is find the broken point so you get the piece you need to fix it. The peddle is held in with 3 bolts, drop it down and look from the back side to see if thats the broken point. Thats my bet, I used to replace that one every 3 months on a 99 F550 wrecker I had. I put a micro lock on it when the warranty ran out and I had to replace it myself. |
