hello i'm Matt. i have a 2002 f-250 lariat 4X4 CCab. mine vibrates like that. Starts around 55-60on up to about 68mph. Mine seems to make louder noise when i let off slowly though. I have replaced the u-joints twice and replaced the carrier bearing. just really seems like and out of balanced drive shaft. i have had a lot of trucks and never had an out of balance drive shaft. i will take any advice. also have hubs that wont work by the switch and a clunking in the front end when off-road. any help please. thanks everyone for your information. very helpful.

Hey, Well i have a 2003 7.3 lariat ccab 4x4 and i have the exact issue, i had it in 4x4 also, had the front drive shaft rebuilt and balanced, that fixed that, then i also had it in 2wd, and it only comes as your gaining speed slowly or if you lightly touch the throttle i can hear the growling/vibration and its driving me nuts, at first i thought it was a wheel bearing and replaced both assemblies, 500$ later :\ my problem wasnt gone, so ive been searching for this for awhile, the rear ujoints i havent checked yet but will be doing tonight ill just drop of shaft and see how stiff they are, what brand does everyone recommend? and of coarse greaseable. |

i ordered new u joints thinking that was them, had my truck on the hoist at work took the drive shaft right out and all u joints seem to be farley new from previous owner, so then i was super pissed because i have been chasing this around for 6000 km lol, and yes it is quieter in the pass side seat, only the driver can hear it and feel it with your left foot on the floor neer the fire wall, so i had my truck running on the hoist and had a fellow mechanic use a stethascope or w.e its called to listen for the noise, i could hear it best in 2x4 at about 60km/hr and up so he started poking around, ruled out the front end as for now and found the rear end was making the noise, im thinking my clutch packs are shot because i can never get the limited slip to work since day one and so i replaced all fluid and with 2 additives, i just got back from a 1800km trip and im at the point where when it blows up then ill fix it ill know what it is, but im going to diag it further on monday i hope see if we cant poke around the diff and see if something has let go might pull the axles etc, as for now i drive around until she pops.

OK, well round 2 * DING DING *, just got it off the hoist at work, removed the rear drive shaft and put it in 4x4 so only the front would spin, ruled out everything in the front all regualr noises found, so i installed rear drive shaft and threw it back in 2x4 and the noise came back, had a fellow mechanic use the stethascope again and sure enough the rear pinion bearings are noisy, there making a rawring noise/grinding, so ill replace them later this week and go from there. ill keep you all up to date, this issue seems to be with alot of trucks.

The bearings that were making the noise.....did you happen to notice where they were manufactured and by whom? |

Has anyone figured out the cause for the vibration. I have a very similar situation. Drive an 02 f350 crew cab long bed. 102,000 miles on it. I can't say that I can make it happen, but I noticed laying on the pedal does seem to get rid of it. It seems to happen randomly, but I notice I'm doing about 40 mph. Sometimes less though. Garages don't seem to know either, because I can't always make it happen. The whole truck seems to vibrate. if I don't hit a bump or apply gas, it stays. Put it in nuetral and it's still there. Tried turning off overdrive, still there. Checked front wheel bearings and ball joints and took apart locking hubs and cleaned and packed with grease. Still there. Any help would be appreciated.
