Transfer case interchangeability
I need to rebuild my transfer case, I believe the range fork turned into more of a range spoon, so I will be splitting the case open.
But in the event that parts to fix cost alot more than a decent used one (like if I need a planet, chain half case etc) , I will just go with a used unit. I just need to know what years/ motors will interchange I have an E99 F250 auto trans, 4x4 (manual) 7.3 Will one out of a gasser 250/350 work, or do I need to stay powerstroke donor? Also what years will work? I believe it's 99-03 but I don't know if it is different when it went to 6.0. Also, I believe that some dodges came with the same transfer case, NP 271 IIRC, do those swap or are the matting parts different? Thanks, Brian |

The biggest difference for the 99-03 is auto vs manual transmission. The input shaft on the transfer case is a different spline count but otherwise they are the same. The dodge case is basically the same too, mainly the input/output that are different. You can use a case from a gas vehicle without any issues, I have my 00 electric shift sitting next to a manual shift off a gas truck right now and their identical except for the motor vs linkage and electrical connections. If you end up with one out of a 6.0, you should be able to get away with swapping the input.

I have a manual case for an automatic that has a crack in the housing. The internals are good. I could sell you it for parts or sell you parts out of it. Let me know if you have interest. Where are you located?

I'm in ct, but I would guess that you couldn't compete with the local scrap yards, I can get on for $300-600
