It was my 4" downpipe rubbing a bolt on the shackle.

mine is doing the same thing. When I let off the accelerator and/or when I turn left. It also does it everytime I hit the accelerator in reverse. It's more of a growling noise coming from around the firewall or tranny is what it sounds like. Also thought it could have been he tourqe converter but never had one go bad so I dont know what they sound like. If anyone has any solutions help would be greatly appreciated.

hey guys. i have the SAME issue....it started about 10 months ago...it would come and go, very subtle at first and then as time went on it got a little louder...i did ball joints on both sides of the truck and noticed that on the passenger side wheel bearing it was missing some needle bearings on the back side...

(small picture)
luckily i had the old wheel bearing that i replaced on the driver side and removed the needle bearings and "race" from the junk wheel bearing, reinstalled and everything was fine.. there was a small groove on the axle shaft where it rode on the needle bearings before they broke. soooo today on the way back from NY to pick up my lift kit...the truck started to make the same noise on the same side but a hell of a lot worse..i got home and grabbed the axle shaft by the u-joint and there was like an inch of play...not good. so i am figuring that the bearing let go, and carved a nice groove in the axle...great. a guy down the road had this happen to him twice.. anyone else have this??

I had a real low frequency vibration coming up through floorboard. Was getting worse so took it into a shop I trust. They checked bearings, u joints and finally got to rear diff ... fluid was all burned and there was a lot of play in it. Not sure what he did other than replace fluids but the vibe went away. He said I may need to rebuild rear diff. Can anyone tell me how I can know for sure that it needs a rebuild? Anyone know how much $$ that will set me back?

Thanks guys.

Old thread I know but did you ever figure this out? I'm having the exact same issue and I can't figure it out!

yes i did figure it out, my downpipe was the problem. If it was ever on a bind or hitting the acceleration twisting the motor the downpipe would rub on the firewall.

What did you do to fix it. You said earlier in the thread that one of the hangers came loose. Did you fix the hanger and thats it?
