Steering box
I have a 01 f250 and was wondering how to tighten up the adjustment on my sterring box? Has quite a bit a slack in the from end and I heard that I can adjust the steering box before I do anything else?

No, no, And NO!
![]() Taking the slop out of the steering box is the last place to tighten-up the linkage (because it's gonna make the smallest bit of improvement at the Greatest Risk for you to destroy it) The First place is to have someone wiggle the play, back & forth, in the wheel while you lay underneath seeing where that play originates. If the Pitman Arm (coming out of the box) doesn't move and all the slop is happening before that, Then consider the box (that's rarely the case though). More likely you'll find movement in the Tie Rod ends or Idler Arm... Do that first. |

Yea I did that a little while back and found slack in the tie rod from the pitman arm. I replaced that one but seem to still have play in the same place. Well I'll have to do it again. Thanks for the heads up on the steering box I read a lot of forums that said do it and others said not to, so I thought I would ask. I did read 1-2 forums that said that the pump was the issues which I don't see that it could be but very well possible I guess.
