Troubleshooting 4x4
Hey guys,
Just want some opinions before I start dumping money into the rig. Last winter when driving in the snow I heard a loud thud and suddenly lost my 4x4. Luckily we had a mild winter and I didn't need it too often. The other day I went under the truck and when it's in 4wd the shaft is locked up like it should be. But still no 4wd to the front wheels. What would cause this? Hubs? They are manual locking ford hubs. Any unsure would be awesome. How would I test the hubs to see if it's them Thanks Will |

two things:
Check that your drive axles going to each hub are engaged to verify that it's NOT your front diff. You should be able to hand-spin that front driveshaft and see the drive axles move as well. Second, if one hub came disengaged 4WD wont' work. It needs both hubs engaged to function. Maybe you popped a hub. When I went to rebuild my stock ford hubs, I found it more cost effective to just go with the Warn Prems. I have to get out now to lock them but, no more vacuum issues to deal with. good luck |

Get this resolved? Somewhere I posted the steps to troubleshoot 4wd to determine where the problem is. I can post it again if you still need it.
