2001 4r100 rebuild advice

looking to rebuild locally (east bay area) my tranny and don't need to build it for a 600 hp motor.But I do have a dp tuner and am probably in the the low 300 hp class. options so far are 3100.00 ish for a guy to go through it using a ford reman torque converter thats triple disc and forged steel, red eagle clutches and change out all electronics and solenoids and keep my john woods vb. He wasn't sure if I have steel planet gears but it sounds to me like I do being its a 2001. Another option was a shop for 1200.00 using raybestos clutches and seals was gonna go through and mic and test everything and change out as needed solenoid and electronic wise. same 12000 mile warranty but the more expensive was only 3months instead of 1year. I do want a better tc then stock and am wondering how far to go with it... whats out there for my realistic needs? I am aware of bts and ats and sun coast act and have seen the prices but feel the lack of funds to go that far with a complete bullit proof. also a local rebuild guy can be better then shipping stuff back and forth IMO.I don't know from lack of experience what products are better and whats the best move. any help would be awesome...
