Front Driveshaft Question

Had a clunking with the hubs locked on my '02. It would clunk with either side locked independently so I narrowed it down to the diff or the front driveshaft.

Worked on putting new U joints in the front shaft today and ran into the cause:

At this point, what are my options? I think I can get all the parts, but then I'll need to cut and weld it back together (not a problem) and have it balanced, ~$65. Should I just return the U joints I haven't installed and buy a new shaft? Anyone had any luck with a used one? Is it common for used shafts to wear at this location? If so, I'd probably shy away from used.

Anyone have any good sites for these parts if I DIY?

Thanks fellas.

I wouldn't weld a part that's under that much stress, if you're talking about welding a u-joint on to the end of that shaft stub. It'll never hold.

Replace it with new or good used.

I was able to use a slide hammer welded onto the ball to get it to pop off. The stud on the yoke under it should be salvageable. Thanks guys.
