squeaky sounds coming from front end...

Okay so I finally used my 4x4 for the first time in a few months, had to go pull a buddy out. never went into 4x4low. kept it in high most of the time. now a few days later I am having this squeaky noise, i think i have it pin pointed coming from the front drive shaft. eaither before it goes into the axel or when it is coming out of the transfer case. Any idea of what it could be??? its supper annoying and i want to know if i am tearing up anything anywhere!! any idea how to get rid of it?? please and thank you!!

Best thing to do would be to pull the front driveshaft. Then you can really check out the U-Joints/Cardan/Slip. There is a spring & ball inside the Cardan (dbl U-Joints) that can be squeaky and the only way to check it is in your hand with the driveshaft out.

If everything looks good, drive it... If there's still the noise, at least you know where it's Not!

how difficult is it to pull the driveshaft? once i get it out are there any tips to make it non squeak if that is where it is?

Not hard , 4 bolts each side and they're kinda in the open. Only thing is, they're TIGHT! You have to be using quality tools here, they're like 12mm (as I remember) and 12pointed so, you need a good strong boxwrench because you're gonna have to "lay on it"

well i never took out the driveshaft i went out to move the truck around in the driveway for this operation and as i drove it down the street the sound went away...so i drove about 7 miles or so and not one sound..today i was going down the road stopped at a red light started up again and it came back...not as loud as before but it was there

for what it matters..just double check your leaf spring bushings (if you have them)..when i bought my powerstroke it had never been offroad and once i took it offroad and it started flexing more it must have finally split that bushing since it had only been a road warrior. cant hurt to try!
