thump noises, is it the tranny??

So i bought a 2000 f-250 the other day its a 4x4 w/the auto tranny in it. the truck runs great but ive been expierencing a little issue. truck shifts great but every time i come to a stop i feel this thump, as if it were shifting into neutral or something. Then as I take off i feel it again then it drives normal. Is the tranny going in neutral or is something loose down there......also it never does it when i initially shift into drive only after the first time i come to a stop??? Ive never had a diesel automatic so idk

Sounds a bit like the slip yoke. Might try greasing it to see if it goes away.

Might try this slip joint grease procedure to see if it helps. Easy and cheap.
