4r100 leak. need help

my tranny has been leaking since i changed the fluid in January and i didnt drop the pan when i changed it. its coming form the back of the tranny and its not coming from the top there is road grime up here and if it was leaking from there it would leave a clean spot. i think the owner before me put a new gasket on when he did it. i dont know if its a ford gasket because the gasket is squeezing out pretty good between the pan and the tranny, it almost seems like the bolts are way over tightend. should i get a ford gaskets and replace it and torque them down... i hate leaks

IIRC the gasket is reuseable and pretty durable, but if it's torqued enough to squeeze out the pan itself might be bent at the bolt holes. You could pull the pan and check for flatness and repair, but they are only $25 or so at rock auto so I'd slap on a new one to be done with it. Or a fancy one with a drain plug to make draining it easier. 4X4 and 4X2 are different FYI.
