So like the title says. When im on the gas there is no sound. Then it seems like when the RPM's get low enough to disenguage the TC it starts to rattle and then kind of a rattle squeal until your almost stopped. It seems to be coming from under my feet. Any ideas of what it could be???
![]() Everything seems to work ok. I have 203k on the truck. Thanks in advance! |

Sounds like your torque converter going out.

Dang I hope not...does anyone else have any ideas? Just trying to stay positive. Might have to bite the bullet and do a rebuild and new TC. :-(

![]() Does everyone agree with the torque converter going out? And if it is, am I going to have to rebuild the tranny too. If the TC is going out is it going to send junk into my tranny? |

Ok figured out what it was. Believe it or not it was the rear u joint. The sound was traveling up to the tranny I guess. Lol. It was hard to find cause you couldn't tell the u joint was bad by trying to move the drive line. We had to put it in gear while it was running to see it.
Then getting the right u joint was pain in the a$$. It turns out either the driveline and yoke or the rear end was changed out on my truck before I got it. I finally got it but the at least the new stuff was twice as beefy. No new torque converter for now. Thank god!!! Sent from my iPhone using Autoguide |

I am having the same issue except my 99 (166K) only does it after hitting a rough spot at the bottom of a hill i cant avoid, today it did it right after i hit the road ruts then quit. Go off the interstate and it did it again until i almost came to a complete stop. Sounds like a squeel/ buzzing sound from the feet/radio area, no noticeable vibrations. But right after it does it i can put the truck into neutral and the rpms jump to like 1500 then drop slowly. Any Ideas.

Have someone watch your u joints. Put the truck in neutral. Then reverse and then drive. When i tried to move mine by hand they seemed tight. But putting in gear you could clearly see it. Even though it was my rear u joint, it sounded like it was coming from under my feet. I guess the sound just traveled up the drive line. If it's not that then
sorry. My buddy who is a Ford master tech said the same sound can come from the planitary gears in the tranny also. Hope this helps. |
