no acceleration...no top end...
Hi,
I've been searching the posts but haven't found my issue. I've got a 2001 E350 and was coming down the Grapevine (northbound) and it suddenly felt a bit funny. When I hit the flat I couldn't get past 60 and when I pulled off for fuel I could barely make it up the overpass. It took forever to get to 50mph...(maybe a full minute) idles rough and the "service engine" light is on...(not the "check engine" light) I changed the fuel filter and the air filters and was going to check the waste gate until I saw a post that told me the vans don't have a waste gate. Ideas? Thanks in advance...

CPS is the cam position sensor they seem to go out alot on the 7.3 mine went twice but it was different symptoms My truck would just die if the sensor was acting up and took awhile to start was really bad when it rained alot.

)2nd, how many "lights" do you think you've got? Your SES (Fords version of the CEL) is lit, you need to get it scanned with the proper equipment (NOT some OBD-II scanner like you can buy for $100 or even something AutoZone or PepBoys use). You need the right scanner, a professional one. Go find a shop who can do this for you, chances are the code that caused the light to come on will point you in the right direction... Doesn't sound like a CPS to me, they fail On or Off, it runs or it doesn't. You sound to me like it's a fuel delivery problem (just a guess, that scan will confirm what's actually wrong )

First of all, thanks so much for the reply...
Secondly, thanks for pointing out my misplaced post (not sure how that happened) Do you know if it's possible to move it where it belongs?... and thirdly, thanks for letting me know that the SEL is the same as the CEL. I thought they were two separate lights. Now to the meat...I just took apart the fuel regulator to clean the screen that I've read about, and can't find one. Do you know if it served any purpose other than a secondary filter? The bowl fills quickly when I turn the key on so it looks to be getting plenty of fuel up to the filter. I'll now put everything back together and limp it down to someone with a scanner. |

OK, NP,
Unfortunately only a Mod could make the move but, not matter, as I said "we found you!"Not sure what screen you're looking for, or even what it is you took apart looking for it... Sounds like you are getting fuel into the filter housing OK, now if it IS fuel delivery, it's between there and the injectors maybe. Being it's an all-of-a-sudden kind of thing hopefully something's just failed.... The two sensors that control that is the ICP and the IPR (they're expensive so you don't want to just go "try" one ) BUT you get FREE test by unplugging the ICP to allow the PCM to set a default reading and see if it helps (doesn't sound like it either but again it's free)From there it's maybe the electrical side of the injection system controlled by the IDM to the injectors themselves through the UVCH plug. If the UVCH was the problem it would be running very ruff because you'd be dropping cylinders and it doesn't sound like you are. THATS where the scan's gonna help It will get a code to point you to there it thinks the problem is!
