Power Steering Pumps... 2 in 2 days
Alright I got a 2000 F350 7.3L 250000 on body and frame 80000 on motor.
I changed the P/S pump yesterday because it was whining pretty loud and I had some hard spots in the steering. Later that same night the whining and hard spots came back. Then when I was backing into my parking spot at work this morning I blew the hydroboost (pressure line) out of the pump (nut remained in pump the line blew out). I put a new pump and line on this afternoon and its whining and has hard spots again. I do have 38x15.50s on with a stock P/S pump. Has anyone else experienced this before and if so what was the fix? Does anyone know if anyone makes a heavier duty pump and where to get them and pricing if you know it? Thanks guys! |

Red head makes great aftermarket steering gears--they're expensive, but you get what you pay for; especially when you go bigger:

My gearbox seems to be holding up great. I'm looking to find a beefier power steering pump. Like I said I put one on on a friday then saturday morning it popped at work then I put another one on saturday and it has been whining ever since but I don't want to just keep changing and changing them.

I have a PSC pump that got a few years ago that I'm tryin to get rid of it's a made for rock crawling It can be used with or without ram assist. Paid around 400 for it but will make you a deal on it don't have instructions for it though. Your supposed to run hydro fluid in it though instead of ATF.
