Knowledgable and Experienced powerstrokers..HELP!
Ive spent hours and hours searching forums for an answer to my problem but everyone elses fix, doesnt fix my truck..........here goes
My truck makes a loud pop/thud when turning(mostly left) and especially if Im turning left and go thru any kind of dip or bump. Also, the initial pop is almost always followed by another one when I turn the wheel back straight as if the first pop is something that is put under a tension and then the 2nd pop is like the binding tension is relieved. The pop/bang is being transmitted right into the floor board where the drivers side rear shackle is directly under my feet. Ive crawled under my truck dozens of times now looking for something loose or worn or making contact with something else. So far my efforts to eliminate the noise to no avail have been...... -replaced all 4 ball joints. -replaced the leaf spring silencing plastic between the leafs -checked shock mounts and tightened -checked drag link and track bar. Retightened everything -checked tie rods. Theyre not extremely tight, but I cant get any actual play out of them. -sprayed wd40 on leaf spring eyes where they mount to shackles(no change in sound) -disconnected sway bar and no change PLEASE, ANY IDEAS WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED! Im running out of ideas. Last edited by payne5757; 08-03-2010 at 04:08 PM. |

I was having the same type of sound right under my feet when I turn. I changed the drag link and track bar. It started when I put new springs on the front, I had a broken one on the driver's side. The springs I put on were leveling springs and they raised it up 2 inches. I have 85,000 on mine.

have to get under the truck and check everything. i could see rubber hanging out and shinny metal but i had to look a few times b4 i got it. I changed out the swat bar bushing and still had the knock. But i have a fab-tech lift and its prone to that. and it was a B to change. i had to take off the spring and bring it in. the bushing have to be pressed in. just get under there and take a good look at everything in the area.
