Took my truck for an alignment

I took my truck ('99 f250 4X4) for an alignment yesterday. I was called back and told I need the driver's upper and lower ball joints replaced. And that I needed camber sleeves so they could make the needed adjustments for alignment.

Can someone tell me if that sounds right? Also I can see the new balljoints but not the new camber sleeves. Where do I look for them? Are they clearly seen?

My bill was $568.07. Still cheaper than a truck payment!

upper balljoint $60
lower balljoint $91
camber sleeves $48
labor balljoints $200
install sleeves $60
alignment $69.50

The shop has a good reputation around town. So I didn't bother checking around, but now I'm wondering if I should have.

What do ya'll think? Thanks in advanced.

That's 1/2 of what they quoted me at the dealer...w/out the parts. I got a tech to do it at the dealer off the clock for $700 including parts. I say you got a GREAT deal.

that looks about right. I had to have the drag link ends replaced last year and alignment. Total was just under $400. Also had to have the upper ball joints replaced on the wife's F-150. that was also just under $400. I think you did ok. oh, by the way, my tires are stock size but anyone out there with large tires can expect ball joint problems eventually.

Thanks for the replies. I feel better now about the price I paid. I still wonder about the camber sleeves.

My tires are 305's so they're not too much larger than stock. Hopefully I won't have to worry for a while.

according to the experts I talked with at the alignment shops, the aftermarket offset wheels used with large tires are particulary hard on the front axles/ball joints of these trucks.

That's not a bad price. Everyone will price differently. It is a bit of work to fix 'em. Now I remember why I had to do mine at home.

When I had mine replaced at 11,000 miles (yes eleven thousand) it cost me 500 for parts and lobor so I'd say you got a good deal. Mine were replaced with Moog's and havent had a problem with them yet (now around 60,000).

the ball joint can is very comin in alignment on ford trucks as they do not come with them from the factory and sometime are neened to get the alignment to spec's they are in the axel balljoint top hole and if you look you can see them it is a of set bushing that give you more ajustment to help the wheel or tire sit flat on ground or not lean.
