Changing to synthetic oil at 100k

Hello, I have apx. 100k on my 02 7.3. All its life I have run Delo400 and I was thinking about switching to the mobil 1 diesel oil they just came out with. Are there any negatives that could occur if I do this switch so late in the game?

I've run Mobil 1 in all my gas burners for years with great results. Changed oil every 10,000 miles. Tearsdown on one engine for cooling problems at 95,000 Mile and found the insides as clean as the day it was build. Haven't switched on my 6.0 yet but next time around I will.

don't know if it's true but I have heard if you put synthetic in after that many miles it could be bad. It's soo thin that it will find any little hole to cause a leak. Now if you put it in when it was new you probly wouldn't have a problem!... I know DELLO 400 is a good oil and so is ROTELA T. Dello is a high deturgent and helps keep the engine CLEEN! I have seen Caterpillar engines torn down at 1,000,000 miles using dello and they are very clean!

Just my 2 cents

Mark is correct. The Mobil 1 tends to clean gunk that might otherwise prevent a leak. That is the downside. Still running Rotella T; stocked up while it was around $36 for a case of 6 gallons. Now running around $57.

I switched to Rotella synthetic from dino Rotella at around 100-105 K and have had no troubles at all. No leaks and it runs fine. I also switched to Mobil 1 from Castrol dino in my (gas) Mercedes at around 100 K with no adverse results. Both vehicles now have around 138 K.

I changed mine over to Mobile 1 at 220,000 km with no problems at all, But it wouldn't hurt to do a flush when you do the changeover, and keep an eye out for small leaks, shouldn't be a problem, but the syn. is a lighter oil.

Gord.
