warn question...?

i just picked up some new Warn hubs...after reading online and warns instructions, im still a little confused on weather or not i need to install the axle retaining ring ?? Warn instructions say "some late model (89 and newer) do not require an axle retaining ring. vehicles with independent front suspension MUST have retaining ring installed."

wanna put them in tommorow before the snow comes again...anyone chime in on what they have and what they did ?
i think its a straight axle opposed to independent but not 100%....im new to 4x4 and more used to european cars still so i appoligize..
my truck is a 7.3turbo 00 f350 sd xlt 1 ton...font leaf springs not coils..

If it's an 2000 model and still has leafs under it, it's the stock straight axle, or else you'd see big ol coil springs if it were independant front end.
I have a 2001 model, same axle, I can't rememebr exactly all the steps I took , but following the directions , it should be fairly straight forward.

Clean her out well and lube her up good on disassembly/reassembly.

Make sure the outter portion of the hub is indexed correctly, or the outter will not fit snuggly into the inner shell of the new hub. Never use extreme force on the mounting bolts to pull the outter in, it should fit snug and seat fairly easy.
