Manual Tanny "Shutter" start from Dead Stop
I have been getting a lot of shutter when I let the clutch out from a dead stop, especially in reverse. I can't locate a specific area it is worse, you look behind you and the bed is bouncing all the while the cab is bouncing as well. I have a Luk clutch I put in about 60,000 miles ago and now have 211,000 on the truck. Could this be transmission mounts or engine mounts? I wouldn't think the flywheel has warped already. If I'm letting the clutch out really slow, the shutter gets progressively worse. I had the rear drive line straightened and balanced a few months ago and also replaced the center hanger along with all new u-joints. After the truck gets going, no problems at all. I hope this isn't something really expensive to fix as I will be selling the truck for an upgrade in about 2 months. Any ideas? - '95 F-250 Super Cab, PSD 5 spd.

I would be looking at the tranny mounts, motor mounts, clutch, fly wheel, throw out bearing, bell housing bolts, everything that holds the tranny in place as well as the all the components to the clutch. To me it sounds like that is the area of the problem. But you did not mention if it gets worse as the truck is moving. If it only happens when you engange the clutch then your problem is with the clutch. By the way welcome to the site. |

Thanks for your replies guys. The shutter only occurs when starting in 1st or 2nd (3.55 rear end) from a dead stop, then the up shifts and downshifts are perfectly normal. When I replaced the clutch with the Luk, I also replaced the DMF with a single mass. Another thing comes to mind, I have noticed a hum (not a squeek or squeal, very low hum) noise when the truck idles (more noticeable when the truck is cold), but once the rpms pick up, that goes away. I have the replacement spring bushings for the rear waiting to be put in. I think the next step I will try is the tranny mount. If those changes don't work, then I'll be dropping the tranny, that's always fun. If I drop the tranny, probably best to just replace the pressure plate, disk, pilot, throwout, surface the flywheel and check the fork for warp or wear. What do you think?

Sounds like a good plan to me, I wouldn't purchase the tranny mount bushing unless it is needed. Inspect all parts replace all worn or damaged parts. |

Well, the new clutch is now in. The rattle is gone as well as the shutter. I had the flywheel resurfaced, new disk & presure plate, new throwout bearing, new throwout bearing fork. Now I have vibration that starts at about 1100-1000 rpm when slowing down to a stop while still in gear. It is the loudest in 4th gear. The clutch works great now. I can start out in 2nd without the cab shaking apart.

You say while still in gear is that with the clutch pressed or everything fully engaged.
My truck will do it if I don't kick it out of gear or press the clutch when stopping. It'll have a jerk to it cause the gear is to tall for the rpm's |
