rear drive shaft installation
Hi Guys,
Hoping for some help... I had a shop do a center bearing and ujoints a little while back. Also had them balance the driveshaft. I don't drive the truck everyday, and seldom on the highway. Recently I was at cruising speed 60-70mph and noticed a strong vib that wasn't there before the center bearing job. They DID balance the driveshaft, I'm wondering if they didn't mark the driveshaft for re-installation... Should I just remove the shaft and start working thru the mounting positions/test driving? -Or is there a way to tell how the shaft was originally mounted? The thing is, two different shops (buildings connected) did the work. One shop did the removal.reinstall, the other did the balance. I'd hate to have one shop redo their work for the other shops mistake. Considering the driveshaft was balanced, i'm assuming it's an installation issue....but not sure. update: I do see marks which indicate alignment between driveshaft 1 and driveshaft 2, just after the carrier bearing....is this the only spot that needs to be aligned? -or should I see marks at the rear end and t-case junctions too?
i'm at work in my office job right now so, i couldn't do to much for 'parking lot' mechanics at the moment. Last edited by daveyburt; 12-03-2009 at 08:17 AM. |
