But do you know why? What is different about the carrier?

I have only ever found reference to 2 different 10.25 carriers, one for with the speed sensor and one for without it. I have never been in a 10.25 limited slip but have been in 8.8s, 9s, D44s, and D60s and am wondering what is different about a 10.25, I like to know the reasons for things. I was told by many that I could not put a Powerstroke in my 76 body but because I ask why there she sits.

Mainly because the limited slip carrier is setup different, i.e., the gear spacing would change if you were to put a locker onto a limited slip (a couple thousandths). Also, there's no guarantee that either would work as expected if at all.

What I don't get is when you install a locker you pull the carrier out remove the ring gear, stator ring, and bearings if you want to reuse them. Install the ring gear, stator ring, and bearings onto the locker and bolt it in with the caps. Since the locker is its own carrier I don't get why it would matter.
