Transfer Case will not engage 4x4 with ESOF
So I've checked the fuses 28 (dash) and 17 (engine compartment) both are fine. I have double checked both plugs on the motor that engages the 4x4 on the transfercase and it will still not go into 4x4 mode.
I also tried disconnecting the batteries for 30 minutes, I have tried in neutral with the brake pushed in, I have tried backing up. Short of removing the motor on the transfercase and bench testing it for 12v and looking at the gears, the only other thing I can think of is the GEM. Now I have read around the internet that these motors can fail or it could be the GEM. However if it was the GEM wouldn't other things stop working? The only thing that doesn't work is the 4x4, the auto hubs work fine. Any other suggestions? |

I've been thru the same with my 2000 F250 with esof. Mine was stuck in 4x4 and would not shift out. When I did try to shift to 4x2 I heard a chattering sound from the shift motor. I took the motor off the transfer case and tested the electric motor. It works fine but when I took the motor off the metal frame I found 2 gears with teeth worn off. Is there a fix for this other than buying a new one, get one from a salvage yard or putting manual shift linkage on?
