Loosey Goosey Steering

Hey fellas, my steering is driving me nuts. At highway speeds I have a couple of inches of "dead zone" and when it does finally "catch" the truck will jump from one side of the lane to the other.
I recently went from 245's to 285's, I thought this would help tighten it up but it's only gotten worse. I also had $1500 of front end work done..tie rods, moog greasable joints, etc. Upon crawling under my truck I found that my steering dampner?? (looks like a hydraulic cylinder) is bent.
Tightening down the ps pump only works for a week or so then it's loose again
any ideas?? I want it to steer like an 08!

Do you have that much play when you're sitting still?

No I don't believe there's any at all at a stand still. I'll have to check again. Up until about 45 mph steering is relatively tight. Only at hwy speeds you have to constantly move the wheel back and forth to stay straight

I'm tempted to take it to a front end shop and have them diagnose it and I'll do the repairs my self

Let someone come along with a little more knowledge than me but I think you can...

Look at the top of the steering box. Driver side next to the battery down in there. Loosen the alan screw on the top, tighten the nut up a small amount, retighten the alan screw, and see if that helps.

Already done that. Only helps for about a week then it's loose again. I wonder if my pump is bad

I have a similar problem. I have alot of play wether im moving or sitting still. I have replaced all of my tie rods and such due to excess play in the joints. But I still have a hell of a lot of play its hard to keep here straight down the high way. I have already tried to tighten the steering and no help. Does anyone know if I can replace the steering box. Thats the only thing left that seems loose.
