Funny that I'm having the same issue. I've gone so far as to replace all the bushings with poly. My front end feels very tight but still, somehow, feels loose at the same time; yet another SD mystery. I'm glad I read the post first as I was about to drop a ton of coin on a new set of 285's.

Someone one on here replaced their rotors and calipers and it went away. I've done my drivers side without success, maybe the passenger side will fix it.

Is it just happening to 250's? What about one ton single and dualls? Could we hear from some owners? Maybe the Dana 50 has something to do with it?

My next step is to replace the springs with one ton units and possibly add the Rancho electrically adjustable shocks. Otherwise, I'm suspecting the design of the track bar and will look for a better unit

I think this is the steering box.... les schwab and highway tire both told me the same thing when i had it looked at. My entire front end needs to be re-done but i cant make myself spend 1500 on that when i could use it for performance mods haha.

I have the same problem, I had new ball joints installed on my 04 f-250 yesterday and was told my steering gear is worn and needs replacing. Last night on the freeway same loose steering so I am looking at your post after my search here to try and find info on the steering gear. I might go to the dealer to confirm if the shop mechanic is correct or not. Have you resolved this yet?

I replaced the front springs on my f-250 with the heavy f-350/450 springs and it did not fix the loose steering problems- other than my truck is level now (it was off by an inch in the front) I have been told by mechanic I need a new steering gear. New ball joints did not tighten the steering either, and yup the new 285/75/16's did not help either, although I was not hopefull they would.

Anyone think it could be a leaf spring issue, with either bushings, bending, or some sort of fault in the method of attaching the axle to the leaf springs that is faulty? I could easily see a worn or squished out bushing causing this if it's worse on one side.
