You said it has new hubs correct? Did you happen to check the actual shaft to see if it has been worn down due to bad bearing before you got it?

Yes, brand new bearing assy. As for the manual lock hubs I did not replace them. I checked for pitting in the shaft but there wasn't any. So I just assumed the bearings had been wore down evenly without damage to the shaft. Basically was just wondering if someone else wouldn't mind popping a hub off and checking the play in their outer shaft and see if it is similar or there is no play at all.

A tad dirty but you can see the bearings are in descent condition. These are the bearing assy that were replaced.

You can re use your seels the pilot bearing is most likely the problem had the same thing happen to me and kept driving it until it damaged my axle. Lock your front hubs and see if the problem stops. If this works its most likely the bearing now heres the good news its a dealer part that they only will sell you with a complete hub assembly but I discovered that NAPA has the bearing for $13 hope you didnt damage your axle.

Good luck

Steve

Still does it in 4x4.... already mentioned that in page 1. Also replaced everything exept the outer stub. Thanks for the responce though. Could it be a pinion bearing in the process of going out?

Don't know how much play is allowable there... that shaft splines to the hub locker, right? Wonder if the hub holds that shaft secure? Or maybe it could simply be common noise coming from the leaf springs as they articulate? Spring bushings worn? I'd have to hear your noise to go further into that.

Have you tried manually locking the hubs? I know you said you put it in 4wd but ESOF doesn't always engage the hubs due to common leaks in the vacuum lines.

Diff oil level is correct just had them check for me during my last oil change less than a week ago. When I say I had it in 4x4 I mean by actually locking in the hubs manually. I don’t believe I have auto locking hubs. I know that when they are manually in 4x4 it still makes the same noise. I’m so confused on this one…….
