What is this sensor leaking fuel?

This sensor on my buddies 97 PSD is leaking. It is next to the fuel filter bowl. It is leaking where the black plastic is inserted into the metal part of the sensor. I am unable to identify what the sensor, because my truck is a 99 and the filter assemblies are different.

i was told its a fuel filter vacuum switch. mine leaked too. i didnt notice any problems other than the fuel leaking. the dealer says its a common problem but that part cost me about 80 bucks. it just screws out and right back in. about a 2 minute job

If he regularly drains the water you can just plug it off. I did it to my 97 until i got some time to do it. Doesnt hurt anything.
