power loss at 3k rpm

Is it normal to have more power in OD at 2k or so than OD off at 3k rpm. If Im pulling a bobcat or construction trailer up a hill or on take off Im better off letting it shift in OD. Is this normal. I have 450K Miles on it. I was afraid the valves are starting to float.

After 450k you should know! haha...

You're getting into the powerband on the 7.3 around around 1800-2000 rpms. At 3k rpm's you're falling off it.

Imagine pedalling up a hill in 2nd gear on a bike how fast you're flailing about but not really getting any speed up, and then you switch to 3rd gear and suddenly you're workin it up that hill!... same idea.

Same thing happens if you hit the hill too fast and you can't keep that speed up you have to drop down a gear to get back into the powerband.

thanks for the info. It had 445k when I bought it. Its my first PSD, I use to have a straight 7.3 and I couldn't remember the powerbandbut I guess Im not surprised a turbo would do that.
